Few topics draw the ire of the casual sports fan more than the annual kerfuffle over the Baseball Hall of Fame voting.
There’s the steroids issue. The sabermetrics/WAR issue. The longevity, career numbers issue.
But mostly, there’s the yearly handwringing — mostly by baseball’s modern math proponents — over who gets to vote and why they “wasted” their ballot (i.e., didn’t vote for the handwringer’s guy).
For the record, to be eligible to vote for the Hall of Fame, writers must be active members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America for 10 consecutive years.
With infrequent exceptions, we take the privilege seriously. Voting members of the BBWAA have sat in a lot of press boxes, spent pre-games in a lot of managers offices and interviewed hundreds of winning and losing pitchers.
At PressBoxDFW.com, we’re proud of the fact that we have three Baseball Hall of Fame voters – Jim Reeves, Anthony Andro and Gil LeBreton. All have been writing about Major League Baseball and the Texas Rangers for many seasons.
Revo himself is a three-time nominee for the Hall of Fame’s highest writing honor – the Spink Award.
With ballots due Dec. 31, we thought we would kindle the annual fire by having each of our voters explain their ballot.
Each of the links will take you to that writer’s story. Enjoy.
