Gary West’s talent for gifted writing knows no boundaries, but local readers probably know him as a former thoroughbred racing columnist for both the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Dallas Morning News. The son of a jockey, West was a college teacher before returning to the race track and writing about horse racing. He has appeared as a commentator on racing for ESPN and CNN, and has hosted his own radio program on racing. He is a past-president of the National Turf Writers Association. Gary has also authored several books about horse racing, notably Razoo At The Races: Diary of a Horseplayer, which is one of the funniest books ever written about the sport of kings.
